Once a forgotten early 1900s China cabinet, this elegant antique has been lovingly transformed into a one-of-a-kind heirloom inspired by the timeless beauty of French country homes and European estate furnishings.
Every inch of this cabinet has been carefully refinished by hand using layered artisan techniques that create an authentic, timeworn patina. Soft green tones, delicate crackling, translucent glazes, hand-applied gold leaf, shellac, waxes, and subtle distressing work together to achieve the rich depth and character normally found only on cherished antique furniture. Every finish on this cabinet was built in layers using traditional decorative painting techniques, creating subtle movement, authentic aging, and remarkable depth. No two surfaces are exactly alike, making this a true one-of-a-kind work of functional art.
The original decorative fretwork, graceful turned legs, and architectural details have been preserved to honor the cabinet's history while giving it a fresh new life. Delicate floral artwork has been thoughtfully incorporated into the raised panels, adding a romantic touch without overwhelming the cabinet's timeless elegance.
The aged white interior beautifully showcases linens, ironstone, books, pottery, baskets, seasonal décor, or treasured collections, making this cabinet as functional as it is beautiful. Two shelves are removable, making it even more functional. Two plate rails are on the two shelves. As part of the redesign, the original small decorative medallions were thoughtfully replaced with handcrafted carved appliqués. I created a custom mold from one original carving and hand-cast matching embellishments, allowing the cabinet's details to remain balanced while complementing its French cottage-inspired finish.
Whether placed in a French country kitchen, dining room, entryway, hallway, bedroom, or living room, this cabinet becomes an instant focal point while providing generous hidden storage behind its glass door. The original castor wheels remain while a new ceramic knob was added.
