I am drawn to furniture that already has something to say: an unexpected curve, an old keyhole, solid drawers, a little wear in the right place, or proportions that would be hard to find new. Sometimes that means a stately cabinet. Sometimes it is a small table with enough presence to change the mood of an entire corner. I choose the foundation first, because the finish only works when there is something worthwhile underneath it.
From there, I let the piece lead. A soft wash may leave the grain and joinery visible. A deeper finish may call for hand-painted color, darkened edges, decoupage, appliqué, interior surprise, or hardware that feels like jewelry. I do not use a formula. I look for the balance between the furniture's original character and the new life it is ready to live.
That is why my painted furniture is not meant to look factory-perfect. You may find painterly variation, a softened edge, or a patina that gives the work a human hand. The result is still made for daily life, with the care and attention needed for a dresser, cabinet, table, or storage piece that will be used and enjoyed.
When you are choosing a one-of-a-kind piece, I think the practical details matter as much as the first glance. Measure the wall, the doorway, and the space around it. Notice what needs to be stored, where a lamp might sit, and whether the piece needs to quietly support the room or become its focal point. Those questions help you choose something you will keep seeing differently, long after the day it arrives.
How I choose a piece

- 1. Start with the bones.I look for good proportions, useful scale, thoughtful construction, and the sort of detail that gives an older piece its hold on a room. I do not expect perfection, but I do look for a foundation that can take on a new chapter.
- 2. Respect what is there.Before I add color, I consider what should remain visible. Original hardware, carved edges, wood grain, a working lock, and gentle signs of age can keep a transformation from feeling too new or too polished.
- 3. Build the character.Color and finish grow from the piece itself. Some designs ask for a quiet, collected look. Others need richer contrast, decorative paper, molded detail, or an interior that makes opening a drawer feel like part of the experience.
- 4. Send it on.When a piece is ready, I share it in my Etsy shop. I can arrange insured delivery within the contiguous United States or local pickup in East Moline, Illinois, so the final handoff feels as considered as the finish.

Yes. I work from vintage furniture, so no two foundations, finishes, or details are exactly alike. Once a piece has found its home, I cannot promise an identical replacement, though I can discuss a custom piece with a similar feeling.

Yes. I arrange fully insured delivery within the contiguous United States, and local pickup is available in East Moline, Illinois. I confirm the delivery plan around the individual piece before it comes home.
