Welcome to Painted Designs by Sondra, where vintage furniture is transformed into one-of-a-kind works of artful storage. If you love the style, colors, finish, or overall look of this piece, I would love to discuss creating something uniquely yours.
Each custom commission is individually designed around your vision, preferred colors, style, and functional needs. Because every piece of vintage furniture is different, your finished piece will be an original creation rather than an exact duplicate.
Your design, estimated price, timeline, and shipping arrangements will be discussed and approved before work begins.
ABOUT MY FURNITURE & FINISHES
I primarily work with vintage wooden furniture selected for its character, construction, and functionality. Occasionally, I may use a newer piece to achieve a particular look or design.
My work is artistic rather than factory perfect. Depending on the design, finishes may include hand-painted layers, brushwork, patina, glazing, gilding, distressing, and other decorative techniques. These details contribute to the individuality of each piece.
Vintage furniture may have age-related characteristics such as small nicks, chips, scratches, or other imperfections. I address significant issues that could compromise the piece's function or finished appearance whenever practical. Any notable existing condition concerns will be discussed with you before your project is approved.
If you prefer a flawless, factory-smooth finish, a hand-finished vintage piece may not be the right fit. My goal is to create distinctive furniture with character, beauty, and a story of its own.
I create pieces I would be proud to have in my own home, and each receives my personal attention and care.
HOW TO ORDER A CUSTOM PIECE
To get started, please message me through Etsy with as much of the following information as possible:
- Inspiration: Photos of this piece or other designs you love.
- Furniture type: Dresser, cabinet, commode, nightstand, or another style.
- Style and colors: Your preferred colors, finishes, and overall aesthetic.
- Size: Approximate height, width, and depth, including any size limitations.
- Interior details: Let me know if you would like the interior painted or papered, or if you need additional shelving or drawers. These options may involve additional charges.
- Budget: Your desired price range.
- Timeline: When you hope to have your piece completed.
- Delivery ZIP code: This helps me determine shipping options and potential additional charges.
- Other details: Any special requests or functional requirements.
Please note that vintage furniture dimensions vary. I will confirm the dimensions of the selected piece with you before final approval.
SOURCING, DESIGN & APPROVAL
Once I receive your information, I will review your ideas and determine whether your project is feasible within your preferred style, budget, and timeline.
If a suitable piece needs to be sourced, a 60% deposit is required before I begin sourcing furniture or undertaking work on your project. This deposit confirms your commitment and allows me to dedicate time and resources to your custom commission.
Before you commit, we will discuss the proposed design, estimated total price, anticipated timeline, and shipping arrangements. The final piece will depend on the vintage furniture available and the agreed-upon design.
PAYMENT & DEPOSIT
A 60% deposit of the agreed-upon project price is required to begin your custom commission. I will provide a private Etsy listing for your deposit once the project details have been discussed and approved.
The remaining 40% balance is due when your piece is completed and before it ships or is released for delivery. Any additional shipping charges or approved upgrades will be communicated and agreed upon before they are added to your balance.
The deposit is nonrefundable if you decide not to proceed after I have begun sourcing or working on your project. If I am unable to source a suitable piece or cannot fulfill the agreed-upon project, I will contact you to discuss the next steps, including a refund where appropriate. All deposit terms are subject to applicable law and Etsy policies.
No sourcing or project work will begin until the deposit has been received.
SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Complimentary shipping is offered to eligible destinations within the contiguous United States. Delivery availability and costs can vary by location, so please provide your ZIP code before committing to a custom order.
Some destinations or delivery requirements may involve additional charges. These will be discussed and approved before you commit to the project. Special delivery arrangements, including certain metropolitan areas, Manhattan, remote locations, or buildings with additional requirements, may affect availability or cost.
If your building requires certificates of insurance, special authorization, or other arrangements that my shipping provider cannot accommodate, you may need to arrange your own shipping.
Please provide a valid phone number for delivery coordination. The shipping company may contact you to schedule delivery. Depending on the shipment, you may need to have an able-bodied person available to assist the delivery driver.
Standard delivery is to the interior of the home, just inside the main entrance on the first floor. It does not include carrying furniture upstairs, placement in a specific room, or furniture setup. White-glove delivery may be available for an additional charge; please ask about availability before ordering.
Please allow up to 6–7 weeks for sourcing, customization, and delivery. Some projects may be completed sooner. I will keep you informed throughout the process.
Local pickup may be available at a reduced price. Please inquire before purchasing.
Your contact information will be used to communicate about your project and arrange delivery. Necessary delivery information, such as your name, phone number, and address, will be shared with the shipping provider when required to complete your delivery.
